Persuasion Read-a-Long

Persuasion Read-a-long

Persuasion Read-a-long

We are about 3 months away from the publication of Modern Persuasion.  I am getting really excited and the more I talk to people about it, the more I am told “Oh, I should read (or re-read) Persuasion!” YES!  You should read or re-read Persuasion.  I think it is Austen at her most romantic.

I have been thinking of what to do for the next read-a-long.  I had so much fun doing it in October.  It put me in the perfect mind-set for NaNoWriMo.  I may have focused more on the Elemental Series that month, but I wrote so much more for Northanger Farm than I thought I would.  It was mostly because I had Northanger Abbey fresh in my mind.

I want to do our next read-a-long with Persuasion!  I want to re-read it myself and I want to chat with others as they read it for the first time or re-read it.  Here is what you need to know.

First, sign up!

Second, get your copy of Persuasion.  It can be print, ebook, audiobook, even the movie if you insist.

Third, plan around this schedule.  There are 24 chapters in the book and 28 days in the month.  I say the goal is to read a chapter a day.  That will give you a good 4 day buffer if you get behind.  You can read ahead, but we will limit discussion to the selected chapters that week.  Here is the schedule:

  • February 1:  the day the cover of Modern Persuasion is revealed.  There will be one introductory post to remind you about what is going on.
  • February 6: we will discuss chapters 1-6.
  • February 13: we will discuss chapters 7-13
  •  February 20: we will discuss chapters 14-20
  • February 27: we will discuss chapters 21-24
  • March 1: I will wrap up with any final discussion

Fourth… actually, that’s it!  There will be stickers for those (like me) who like stickers.  You can give me your address on the sign up form.  There is no cost, no grade, no anxiety, just a bunch of us reading a book together.  There may be something special for those who make it to the end.

So, if you want to do this, don’t forget to sign up!
