It’s time for another round of “What’s Sara going to write this April?” This year is pretty momentous. The first time I did the April Camp NaNoWriMo is when I wrote the novel I’m publishing this year, Phi Alpha Pi. With my failing to reach a goal over the last two years, I’m trying something different this year. So, let’s talk about my plans for April’s writing event.
I have so many projects in different phases of development right now. Phi Alpha Pi is less than three months away from publication after four years. Missing Auggie, when I write this, is something I’m deep into re-writing. The fourth book, Woodhouse Yarn and Cafe, is in detailed outline format. The fifth book, Northanger Park, is really early in development. My original plan has been put aside to indulge my desire to visit every Disney Park in the world and write a novel inspired by it.
So, where do I put my focus for Camp NaNoWriMo? It helps that I’m about a month ahead of schedule on Phi Alpha Pi. I expected to be finishing up formatting and production in April. It turns out, that happened as March started. I have some marketing to focus on, but that might be less stressful than anticipated in April. I have set up so many paths for marketing in March that April will really about making sure I’m ready for May. This year I’m paying someone to manage the blog tour and launch day. It might be money well spent.
This allowed me to put Missing Auggie back into re-writes a month before anticipated and giving me time to really give it more of my attention. It’s in draft three and much of what I’m doing is re-organizing information and filling in gaps. There is research being done to make sure I’m being accurate, but it’s not being completely re-written like it was in November. I do need to have this read by beta readers and corrected by the start of June, so an extra 2 months are welcome. I do hope I’m really close to done with Missing Auggie by the time April begins.
The main focus is going to be on completing the first draft of Woodhouse Yarn and Cafe. It got put to the side last November while I focused on Missing Auggie. Now I need the first draft done before the summer begins. The second and third drafts are going to happen in the fall and winter so that it can be ready for editing this time next year. Each time I write a new book, I get better at the timing of the book. IF I have time (that’s a big *IF*) I might get to working on the fourth and final book in the series, Northanger Park, which will play off the idea of a woman who wants to find her Prince Charming. It might force me to visit ALL Disney parks in the next few years. Poor me, but I need to do the research!
Anyway, those are my plans for April. After that it’s full steam ahead for promoting Phi Alpha Pi! I’m really excited about it this year!
