Big Announcement: My First Novel’s Publication

Here I am, a week into July and a week into Camp NaNoWriMo (a project that barely has 2,000 words at this point because… reasons).  This is my third time doing the July round of Camp NaNoWrimo.  The very first time I participated is the reason for this post today.

My novel Modern Persuasion is going to be published by Royal James Publishers!

This novel was born as I sat in my hotel room after a long day at Book Expo.  I wrote it and then put it away.  Last year I pulled it out again, ready to edit, and started thinking about what I could do with it.  I planned to self-publish.  It seemed so easy and a safe way to avoid the problems I knew were common within the publishing industry.  Basically, it came down to a fear of rejection.  I told myself I simply wanted to share what I had written with people.  I told myself it was it would be better if I did this on my own.  In reality, I just didn’t want to face any rejection by the industry.

Something changed this winter and I changed my mind.  I think it was because I let people read it so that I could get some feedback and editing.  Then I started researching possible publishers.  I picked one that had found me first… sort of.  Royal James Publishers started following this blog and the idea of submitting the novel to a brand new publisher felt right.

I have thinking about where this burst of confidence came from.  It was more than others reading it and giving me good feedback.  It had been building over the past 2 years.  First it started with the NaNoLowell group.  What really made me want to do more was working with a local group: The Society of Independent Publishers and Authors (SIPA).  They are a local group who work to support each other. If it wasn’t for them, I would never have seen other people successfully publishing their work.  I would have kept writing, but never moving forward on 90% of it.

Anyway, I have an official author page now on Facebook and you can follow me there to get news about the release date, cover reveal, blog tour and more!  I can’t wait for you all to read Modern Persuasion.
